The HM built in 1864 was at Dumbarton not Dundee. Check the LR again
RE: the 'Hamilla Mitchell' built in 1864. Thanks for pointing out that error. The misattribution is apparently given in a quote from 'The Illustrated London News' (September 25th 1869). If you click the link in the post it'll show you my source for that quote. I've found the listing on the Lloyd's Register for 1869 and I've updated the post, adding a note and a link to the relevant page of the LR.
'A friend of mine' also likes reading and travelling so I will recommend your blog to her.Kind regardsMish Moneypenny
"Right-ho!" Mish Moneypenny ... Just be sure M doesn't catch you skiving, eh! ;-)
I'm interested in the black and white photo you have posted of the north end of the Bund showing the public gardens. Do you happen to know when it was taken? Maureen
I think it is from Life Magazine, maybe late 1940s. Apologies. The original source link for that image seems to have disappeared, however, there are a couple of very similar shots here (if you copy and paste this link into your browser):http://www.chinarhyming.com/2011/07/22/the-bund-from-the-ninth-floor-of-broadway-mansions-a-shanghai-correspondent-tradition-revived/
Thanks for reading. I'd be very interested to hear your thoughts. Please leave a comment.
